IBM brings OpenAI models into enterprise consulting work

IBM and OpenAI are forming a strategic partnership to bring OpenAI models and products into IBM’s enterprise consulting work. IBM says it will embed GPT-5.6, Codex and ChatGPT Work into IBM Consulting Advantage, its AI delivery platform for client projects.

The pitch is aimed at companies that already want stronger AI tools but are blocked by legacy systems, fragmented processes and security requirements. IBM says the partnership will focus on financial services, government, telecommunications and retail, along with internal functions such as finance, procurement, customer operations and HR.

IBM also plans to launch a dedicated OpenAI Practice, with thousands of consultants and engineers trained through the OpenAI Partner Network. Specialized forward-deployed units will work with clients on turning existing workflows into AI-ready operations.

Cybersecurity is part of the package rather than a side note. IBM says it will combine OpenAI frontier capabilities with IBM Autonomous Security and its earlier work in the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program. For enterprise buyers, the important signal is that OpenAI is moving deeper into regulated operational workflows through large consulting channels, not only selling seats and APIs directly.
