Nvidia invests 3.5B USD in MediaTek for AI infrastructure

Nvidia and MediaTek are deepening a chip partnership that now spans cloud AI factories, local AI computing and cars. Nvidia says it is investing 3.5B USD in convertible bonds issued by MediaTek, giving the collaboration a financial weight beyond a normal product announcement.

The infrastructure piece is the important part. MediaTek will adopt Nvidia NVLink Fusion, a platform meant to help hyperscalers, cloud providers and frontier model developers build custom XPUs that can plug into Nvidia’s NVLink-connected rack-scale systems. In plain terms, Nvidia wants more custom AI accelerators to live inside its broader data-center architecture instead of competing with it from the outside.

The companies are also extending work on local AI machines. MediaTek already collaborated with Nvidia on the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip used in DGX Spark, and the partnership now continues into RTX Spark chips for consumer PCs, developer systems and workstations. On the automotive side, MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto platforms will keep integrating Nvidia AI, graphics and DRIVE technologies for software-defined vehicles.

For AI buyers, the move points to a more modular hardware market: big customers get custom silicon, but still lean on Nvidia’s networking, memory, packaging and rack-scale system stack.
