Apple opens Siri AI to actions from any app

Developers can connect app content and workflows through App Intents, turning Siri into an action layer across Apple devices.

Apple has opened its new Siri AI capabilities to all app developers through an early Developer Preview. Apps can now expose content and custom actions with App Intents, allowing users to ask Siri in natural language to check a delivery, book a reservation, place an order or carry out another supported task.

The preview also introduces skills: developers can teach Siri AI to combine several actions into a single workflow. Apple is widening Spotlight’s semantic index too, so Siri can surface app entities that do not fit an existing schema. These changes move Siri closer to an agent layer that can act across third-party software instead of only answering questions or invoking a narrow set of commands.

The tools are available in beta versions of Apple’s operating systems on Apple Intelligence-capable devices. Apple says customer availability will follow in a few months, while App Store submissions will open in the spring. The company has not yet published final terms or usage policies for Siri AI integrations.

Important limits remain. Siri AI is currently unavailable on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in the EU. Some server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily usage limits, and Apple says expanded access will eventually be sold for a fee without giving pricing.
