Nvidia agrees to buy Hugging Face in 12.9B USD deal
The reported agreement would put the main open model hub inside the dominant AI chipmaker, raising questions about developer neutrality.

Nvidia has reportedly agreed to buy Hugging Face for 12.9B USD, according to The Information, moving the chipmaker toward direct ownership of one of the most important distribution points for open AI models. Fortune and Mashable both framed the report as an agreement, while Business Insider’s earlier reporting said talks had valued Hugging Face above 13B USD but could still fall apart.
The strategic point is bigger than another AI acquisition. Hugging Face hosts models, datasets and developer tools used across the industry, including by teams that run workloads on Nvidia hardware but also by companies building around rival chips. Nvidia ownership could tighten the link between open model distribution and GPU demand, but it would also put pressure on Hugging Face’s reputation as a neutral platform.
Neither Nvidia nor Hugging Face has publicly confirmed the deal. That makes this a reported agreement rather than a closed transaction, and any acquisition of a central AI infrastructure platform would likely draw regulatory attention.
