Claude connects to bank accounts with a read-only finance hub

The US beta uses Plaid to analyze balances and up to two years of transactions without moving or investing money.

Anthropic is rolling out Personal Finance in Claude, a new hub that connects bank and credit-card accounts through Plaid. Users can ask questions such as where their money went, whether spending is higher than usual, which bills remain before payday, or how much they could save.

The feature is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money. It can access the bank name, account name and type, the last four digits of an account number, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transaction history. Plaid handles the connection, so Claude does not receive a user’s banking password.

Claude can group spending into categories, compare it with prior periods and flag issues such as duplicate charges, unexpected fees or bills that are steadily increasing. It can also explain financial terms and calculate costs such as interest paid over a year. Anthropic says the product is not designed to provide investment advice and has no ads or sponsored recommendations.

Chats inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic’s models. The beta is limited to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the United States. The launch puts Claude in direct competition with ChatGPT’s Plaid-powered personal-finance tools.
