Perplexity launches Teammates for work that continues without prompts
Persistent agents can monitor ongoing jobs, use Computer tasks, skills and memory, and coordinate through Slack.

Perplexity has launched Teammates, persistent agents designed for complex, ongoing work rather than one-off prompt sessions. A teammate can take a high-level job, use the user’s existing Computer projects, skills, memory and tools, and keep working when relevant conditions change.
The company says Teammates remember previous work and apply feedback to future tasks. They can collaborate with other teammates and message coworkers in Slack, turning a personal AI tool into something closer to a standing member of a work process. Perplexity lists bug triage, QA loops, security monitoring, data analysis, production A/B tests and growth marketing among the ways it uses the system internally. Those examples are company claims, not independent performance tests.
Teammates are initially available on the web to Perplexity Max subscribers, with native apps planned later. The product starts from context already stored in Perplexity Computer, so users do not have to rebuild instructions and background for every session.
The broader change is from agents that wait for a prompt to agents that watch a job over time and act proactively. That could make them more useful for recurring operational work, but it also increases the importance of permissions, review and clear boundaries around what an always-on agent may do.
