Meta’s Muse AI agent can browse, negotiate and check out for users
Muse runs in a secure cloud VM, works through an app or WhatsApp, and is moving agentic shopping from recommendations toward completed purchases.
Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to do more than answer questions. The company says Muse can keep working after a user closes the app, open a browser, fill out forms, negotiate on the user’s behalf and return when it needs approval for sensitive actions such as sending an email or making a purchase.
The important part is the execution layer. Muse runs inside a dedicated Muse Secure VM that stores the agent, connected service data and credentials. Meta says a separate Sentinel agent reviews internet-bound actions, users can choose what each connected app can access, and Muse does not see raw passwords or payment methods.
Commerce is one of the first practical tests. Meta says Muse can check out with Stripe’s Link, using one-time card details and purchase protections, while Shop Pay support is coming soon. Investopedia reported that Shopify shares rose after coverage of the Meta-Muse checkout tie-up, a sign investors see agentic shopping as more than a demo.
Shopify is also building the merchant side of that shift. The company says its Agentic Storefronts and Universal Commerce Protocol are meant to let merchants sell inside AI surfaces such as Google AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot. Together, the moves point to a near-term AI-commerce stack: agents that can decide, merchants that can expose checkout flows, and payment wallets that can limit risk.
