OpenAI closes $11 billion at a reported $1.25 trillion valuation

The first tranche lands after the company reduced its fundraising target from $30 billion to about $20 billion.

OpenAI has closed $11 billion in new financing at a valuation of $1.25 trillion, according to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the matter. Reuters separately reported Bloomberg’s account. OpenAI has not publicly confirmed the closing or named the investors.

The money is described as the first tranche of a larger round. Recent reports said OpenAI reduced the target to roughly $20 billion from an initial $30 billion and lowered the proposed valuation from about $1.4 trillion. If the remaining commitments close, the round would still be one of the largest private technology financings on record.

The gap between the original target and the first closing matters because frontier AI companies are competing for unusually expensive compute, data centers and chips. OpenAI has simultaneously announced large infrastructure programs and long-term capacity commitments, making access to capital a core part of its product roadmap rather than a conventional growth cushion.

A valuation of $1.25 trillion would also put OpenAI far above most public technology companies, despite limited disclosure about revenue, cash burn and contractual infrastructure obligations. The figure reflects the price paid in this reported private round, not a public-market valuation.

Because the report relies on anonymous sources and the full round remains incomplete, the final size, investor list and detailed terms may still change.
