Google opens Fairwind cyber tools to governments and critical infrastructure

Google is launching Fairwind, a limited-access program for governments, Google Cloud customers and cybersecurity partners that need to defend important systems at larger scale. The first offering combines Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber with CodeMender, Google’s harness for finding, validating and fixing software vulnerabilities.

Google says the goal is to move cyber defense from simply spotting flaws to generating verified, deployment-ready patches in minutes. The work is meant to happen inside an organization’s secure cloud environment, which matters for public-sector systems, critical infrastructure and core technology platforms that cannot casually expose code or incident data.

Access is intentionally narrow. Google says more than 650 partners are participating globally, and organizations must limit usage to internal cybersecurity, incident response or penetration-testing teams with controls such as multi-factor authentication.

The launch also shows how frontier AI labs are turning cyber-capable models into controlled infrastructure products. Google says Fairwind will expand with partners while balancing broader defensive access against the risk of giving offensive capabilities to the wrong users.
