Fortinet buys Virtue AI to protect enterprise AI agents

Fortinet has acquired Virtue AI, an AI security startup whose platform tests and protects models, conversational applications and autonomous agents. Financial terms were not disclosed, and Fortinet said the purchase price is immaterial to its business.

Virtue AI’s tools are built for the places where enterprise AI can become operationally risky: model behavior, agent tool use, system access, generated code and compliance controls. SecurityWeek reports that the platform includes automated red-teaming with more than 100 proprietary attack algorithms, simulations for agent workflows and runtime guardrails across text, code, audio, video and image processing.

Fortinet says it will use the acquisition to strengthen FortiAIGate and the broader Fortinet AI-Native Security Fabric. The company specifically called out continuous AI validation, agentic system red-teaming, agent protection, governance and real-time guardrails.

The useful signal is not the size of the deal; it is where large security vendors are pointing their roadmaps. As companies give AI systems more tools and permissions, security products are starting to treat agents as live enterprise actors that need testing, monitoring and policy enforcement, not just safer prompts.
