Deepgram buys Daily and makes Pipecat core to its voice AI stack
The speech infrastructure company is taking over Daily’s real-time network while moving the open-source agent framework into an independent foundation.

Deepgram is acquiring Daily, the company behind the open-source Pipecat framework and a global real-time audio and video network. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The deal gives Deepgram control of more of the voice-agent stack. Its speech models can now sit alongside Daily’s WebRTC and telephony infrastructure and Pipecat’s orchestration layer, which connects speech recognition, language models, text-to-speech systems and other components in low-latency applications.
Deepgram says it will adopt Pipecat as the core of its new voice AI products. Daily’s existing products will continue to be sold and supported, while the framework is expected to remain open source and vendor neutral.
To reinforce that promise, the companies are establishing an independent Pipecat Foundation. Its steering committee is meant to represent the wider real-time AI ecosystem, including companies that compete with Deepgram. Pipecat currently has more than 200 integrations and almost 400 contributors.
Deepgram is also introducing the Real-Time Context Standard, an open protocol developed with the Pipecat team. It is designed to carry signals such as a whisper, instructions for how a model should interpret them and guidance for how a response should sound.
The acquisition matters because one speech-model provider now owns a widely used agent framework and the network beneath it. The foundation’s governance will determine whether Pipecat can keep the neutrality that helped it grow.
