Anthropic reportedly books $10B of Volta compute in Norway

Volta has come out of stealth with a $10B strategic partnership to build an AI factory in Europe, and Bloomberg-backed reporting identifies the unnamed AI lab as Anthropic. Anthropic declined to comment, while Volta’s own announcement does not name the customer.

The project is planned with Bitdeer in Norway and is sized at 133 MW, using Nvidia Vera Rubin systems. Volta says it is the first site in a pipeline of more than 1 GW of near-term power capacity across North America and Europe.

The deal matters because frontier AI labs are increasingly competing on access to power, chips and long-term data center contracts, not only on model architecture. Anthropic already relies on major infrastructure relationships with Amazon and other suppliers; a dedicated European compute project would add another route to Claude capacity outside the biggest hyperscaler clouds.

Volta is also trying to make AI compute look like financeable infrastructure rather than a pure cloud resale business. The company says it raised funding at a $2.4B valuation and set up a $5B infrastructure program with Azora to finance future AI factories.
