Nvidia may invest $3B in Lancium’s Stargate data centers

Nvidia is preparing to invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, the power infrastructure developer behind the Stargate data center campus in Texas, according to a report by The Information cited by Reuters.

The detail that matters is not just the size of the cheque. Nvidia already dominates the accelerator layer of the AI buildout; a direct investment into power and data center infrastructure would push it further down the stack that determines how many large models can actually be trained and served.

Lancium develops power infrastructure for data centers, including facilities designed for heavy AI workloads. The Stargate campus has become one of the most visible symbols of the race to secure electricity, land and compute capacity for frontier AI systems.

For AI companies and cloud buyers, the story is another reminder that model progress is now constrained by physical infrastructure as much as chips. Power contracts, grid connections and data center campuses are becoming strategic assets, not background plumbing.
