NVIDIA invests in Ilya Sutskever’s SSSI and promises Vera Rubin compute

Safe Superintelligence Inc. and NVIDIA announced a long-term strategic partnership on July 27, with NVIDIA also making an investment in SSI. The financial terms were not disclosed.

The important part is compute access. NVIDIA says the partnership gives SSI access to its next-generation Vera Rubin systems and should expand SSI’s compute capacity by an order of magnitude. For a frontier lab founded around one research direction, that is the difference between carefully rationed experiments and a much larger scaling plan.

The companies also plan to collaborate technically on current and future NVIDIA compute platforms. NVIDIA frames SSI’s work as valuable input for platform development, while SSI gets the infrastructure needed to push its alignment-focused research further.

For the broader market, the news is another sign that access to top-tier accelerators remains one of the main strategic chokepoints in frontier AI.
