Samsung puts 1B USD into KKR-backed AI infrastructure company Helix
The investment links Samsung affiliates with KKR, Nvidia, KIA and Vistra in a company built around data centers, power and fiber for AI demand.
Samsung Electronics and five affiliates are investing a combined 1B USD in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure company established by KKR. Samsung says the participating affiliates include Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.
Helix is designed to build and manage the infrastructure stack that large AI customers need: hyperscale data centers, power generation, transmission and distribution, and fiber networks. Samsung says KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia and Vistra are also founding investors, with former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky leading the company.
The useful signal is that AI infrastructure is no longer just a chip-supply story. Large AI deployments increasingly need coordinated access to land, power, cooling, networking, semiconductors, financing and operations. Samsung is trying to move from supplying components into shaping the infrastructure layer itself.
For AI companies and cloud buyers, that could matter if Helix helps bring new capacity online faster. For the market, it is another sign that the AI race is becoming a capital-intensive infrastructure buildout, not only a model-quality contest.
