Notion gives ChatGPT, Claude and other agents one shared memory

Its official MCP setup turns a Notion workspace into durable context and a common skills library that multiple assistants can read and update.

Notion has released an official setup that lets ChatGPT, Claude, Muse and other compatible assistants use the same workspace as durable memory. Instead of keeping preferences, project decisions and working context inside separate chat histories, agents can read and update a shared source through Notion MCP.

The setup centers on an Agent Operating Guide and two databases: one for memory and another for reusable skills. An agent can save facts worth keeping, retrieve them in a later conversation and let another assistant continue from the same context. Skills store procedures and workflows rather than personal facts, so a useful process can be reused across platforms.

Notion emphasizes that the user owns and controls this context. The pages remain visible, editable and shareable like ordinary workspace content. Agents are instructed to treat retrieved pages as information rather than higher-priority commands, and to ask before making structural changes.

This is less a new model feature than an interoperability layer for people who regularly switch assistants. The practical value is continuity: a project brief, preference or learned workflow no longer has to be reconstructed for each agent. The core setup uses Notion’s existing MCP connection and is documented for ChatGPT and Claude, with the same workspace available to other compatible clients.
