Microsoft and Databricks tie enterprise AI closer to Azure

Microsoft and Databricks are expanding their enterprise AI partnership around Azure, with both companies trying to make business-data agents easier to deploy inside large organizations.

Databricks says it will run more of its own core operations and analytics on Azure Databricks and increase its use of Microsoft Cobalt infrastructure. That matters because Databricks is positioning its own production use as proof that the platform can handle demanding AI and analytics workloads at enterprise scale.

The bigger user-facing change is integration. Microsoft plans to keep bringing Databricks capabilities such as Genie and Unity AI Gateway into products across its enterprise stack, including Microsoft 365, Teams, Power BI, Purview, Power Platform, Foundry and Copilot workflows.

The practical pitch is that useful AI agents need trusted company context, governance and cost controls, not only stronger general models. For customers already built around Microsoft and Databricks, the partnership could reduce the friction between data, security rules and everyday work tools.
