All users can generate, preview and revise files without leaving Gemini, including targeted changes to selected text or visuals.

Google has added a built-in file editor to the Gemini app. Users can generate, preview and revise documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code and other files without leaving the conversation.

The editor supports direct manual changes as well as targeted AI edits. A user can highlight a section of text or a visual, ask Gemini to change only that part, and continue with follow-up requests. Files can also be opened in a larger full-screen view for more control.

Google gives the example of turning handwritten notes into a PDF study guide and then refining the result inside Gemini. The feature turns file generation from a one-shot export into an iterative workspace closer to ChatGPT Canvas or Claude artifacts.

Google says the capability is available to all Gemini users in every supported language. PDF preview and editing work on web and mobile. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Markdown, text files and code are initially limited to the web version. For everyday work, the important change is that users no longer have to download a draft, open another application and return to the chat for each revision.
