Anthropic reportedly commits 45B USD to Nscale compute in West Virginia

Anthropic has reportedly agreed to spend about 45B USD over six years on AI computing capacity at Nscale’s planned Monarch Compute Campus in Mason County, West Virginia. Governor Patrick Morrisey said the figure comes from Bloomberg reporting and congratulated Nscale on the agreement.

The reported deal covers about 460 megawatts of capacity. West Virginia’s statement says Nscale would deploy NVIDIA’s next-generation Vera Rubin technology to support Anthropic’s growing compute requirements.

Nscale has positioned the Monarch site as one of the world’s largest planned AI infrastructure projects. LootPress reports that the campus spans more than 2,250 acres, with a first phase designed for 1.35 gigawatts and potential expansion beyond 8 gigawatts. Capacity tied to the Anthropic agreement is expected to begin coming online in late 2027.

The caveat is that the public confirmation is still indirect: the state is citing reports rather than an Anthropic or Nscale contract announcement. Even so, the scale matters. A 45B USD capacity commitment would show how quickly frontier model companies are locking up dedicated power, land and NVIDIA systems, turning AI competition into a long-term infrastructure race as much as a model race.
