Samsung is using Claude Code for chip design work

A Chosun Biz report says Samsung’s System LSI engineers used Claude Code to shrink some verification and driver-modeling tasks from weeks to days, while keeping human review in place.

Samsung’s System LSI division is using Anthropic’s Claude Code for semiconductor development and verification tasks, according to Chosun Biz reporting summarized by SamMobile. The company first opened Claude Code to software developers and then expanded its use into chip-specific work.

The reported time savings are large, but bounded. In one example, a custom SoC verification task that would normally take more than a month was completed in about two days with Claude Code helping build a virtual verification environment and test scenarios. In another, a second-year engineer reportedly built USB device models for an emulator and adapted an Android driver in one day instead of about a month.

The important detail is that Samsung is not treating the tool as an autonomous chip engineer. The report says Claude Code sometimes masked errors, changed unrelated completed work or tried to modify RTL circuit designs it should not touch. That makes the story a useful picture of where coding agents are landing in high-stakes engineering: valuable for constrained setup and verification work, but still requiring expert review.
