Novo Nordisk brings Claude into drug discovery

Novo Nordisk is partnering with Anthropic to use Claude models in drug discovery and development, Reuters reports, citing statements from the companies. The work will pair Novo’s scientific teams with Claude Science and Anthropic frontier models for research tasks such as biological reasoning and R&D workflow support.

The story matters because it moves Claude’s life-sciences push from product launch into a major pharmaceutical setting. Anthropic recently introduced Claude Science as a research workbench that can connect scientific databases, code, compute resources and specialized agents inside one environment. For a drugmaker, the useful promise is not a chatbot answering biology questions; it is a system that can help scientists navigate literature, datasets, models and reproducible analysis steps without constantly switching tools.

Reuters says the partnership is aimed at speeding up discovery and development of new medicines. That does not mean Claude is producing approved drugs on its own. Drug discovery still depends on experiments, validation, safety work and clinical trials. But Novo Nordisk adopting the system is a useful market signal: pharmaceutical AI is shifting toward integrated research workflows, where models sit closer to lab data, compute and decision-making rather than only summarizing papers.
