Google launches Gemini 3.8 Flash for coding agents and cyber defense

Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Flash, a new workhorse model aimed at coding agents, enterprise automation and specialized reasoning. The company says it improves on Gemini 3.7 Flash while keeping the same introductory price: 0.75 USD per million input tokens and 3.75 USD per million output tokens.

The main product signal is that Google is pushing Flash deeper into agent workflows, not only cheaper chat. Google says Gemini 3.8 Flash performs better on long-horizon software engineering tasks, financial and legal agent benchmarks, and multi-step reasoning. The model is available through the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, Android Studio, Gemini Enterprise, the Gemini app for Pro and Ultra subscribers, AI Mode in Search and Gemini in Google Sheets.

Google also introduced Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a cybersecurity-focused variant available to trusted defenders through the new Fairwind Program. The company says the model is built for vulnerability discovery and automated patching, and that it is already being used inside Google for Chrome security and cloud vulnerability research.

The Cyber variant is deliberately narrower in access. Google says it ships with different mitigations because defenders need stronger cyber capabilities, while the general 3.8 Flash model keeps safeguards around cyber offense and CBRN misuse.
