Anthropic opens Claude life-science access for verified teams

Anthropic is opening a beta Life Sciences Verification Program that gives qualified organizations access to Claude models with biology safeguards tuned for legitimate research instead of the broader public rules.

The program is aimed at academic labs, startups, pharmaceutical companies and other life-science teams. Anthropic says verified applicants can receive Standard Use grants for most biology and drug-development workflows, while higher-risk projects need narrower High-risk Use grants with additional vetting. The access applies across Anthropic product surfaces, including the API console and Claude for Enterprise and Team plans.

The practical change is that approved teams should hit fewer blocks when using Claude for drug discovery, research biology, clinical development, manufacturing, quality assurance, regulatory work and related tasks. Anthropic says the grants cover its Mythos, Opus and Sonnet models, with future models added as they launch.

The safety model also changes. Instead of relying only on real-time blocking, Anthropic says LSVP traffic is monitored against each organization’s approved scope so suspicious patterns can be flagged to admins. Flagged activity is retained for 30 days, compartmentalized from Anthropic’s life-sciences research teams, and not used for model training.

The program is not a general loosening for all Claude users. Individual Pro and Max plans are not supported yet, third-party platforms are excluded for now, and BAA-enabled organizations handling PHI are outside the beta.
