BNP Paribas brings Gemini agents into investment banking

BNP Paribas and Google Cloud announced a five-year partnership to expand the bank’s access to Google Cloud AI infrastructure, Gemini models and Gemini Enterprise. The first deployment area is Corporate & Institutional Banking, where BNP Paribas plans to build agents for targeted internal workflows.

The bank says early use cases include preparing corporate credit memos and extending agentic AI into sales, trading, research and structuring work. Gemini models are also planned for LLM@CIB, the internal generative AI assistant already available to more than 65,000 employees.

The important part is governance. BNP Paribas says the Google Cloud rollout will stay within its multi-cloud and multi-model strategy, with public-cloud use limited by existing security and data rules. The company says sensitive categories of data will not be stored in public cloud environments, and each agent will receive authenticated access only to the systems needed for its assigned task.

For the broader AI market, this is another sign that large regulated institutions are moving from chat assistants toward workflow agents. Banks are not just testing copilots; they are starting to wire model access into credit, markets and internal operations, with controls becoming part of the product rather than an afterthought.
