Anthropic commits 11.6B USD to Akamai cloud deal

Akamai says Anthropic has committed 11.6B USD over seven years to use Akamai Cloud infrastructure and software for growing CPU workloads. The agreement is part of a wider push by Akamai to position its distributed cloud network as infrastructure for AI applications and agents.

The structure is unusual for a cloud deal. Akamai issued Anthropic a warrant tied to the relationship, representing up to about 5% of Akamai common stock on an as-converted basis. A portion tied to about 2% is expected to vest with the announced commitment, while the rest depends on expanding the relationship by up to another 9B USD.

Akamai says capital expenditures tied to the initial commitment are expected to be about 5.5B USD, including spending to secure supply-chain components such as memory. The company says the deal does not change its revenue guidance for the current year.

For Anthropic, the deal adds another infrastructure partner as frontier labs diversify beyond the largest cloud platforms. For Akamai, it is a large test of whether edge-heavy distributed infrastructure can become part of mainstream AI compute, not only content delivery and security.
