Google signs nuclear power deal with Constellation for AI growth
The 20-year agreement funds 890 MW of new nuclear capacity for the PJM grid and brings Gemini Enterprise into Constellation operations.
Google and Constellation Energy announced a long-term clean energy agreement meant to add 890 MW of new nuclear capacity to the PJM grid, one of the clearest examples yet of AI demand reshaping power infrastructure.
The 20-year power purchase agreement funds upgrades at 11 Constellation-owned nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Constellation says the work will unlock new firm electricity by improving thermal and electrical efficiency, rather than taking existing power away from the grid. The company says the program represents more than 4.3B USD of new investment, supports about 4,400 existing jobs and creates roughly 7,200 construction jobs during the buildout.
The deal also includes a 15-year energy supply agreement for another 2,700 MW in PJM’s fleet. Google frames the structure as a way to support its growth while adding new supply to a grid that serves tens of millions of people.
The AI angle is not only about data-center electricity. Constellation also chose Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise for a five-year technology alliance. The companies say the work will focus on site selection, power-flow modeling, permitting, outage planning, asset monitoring and protection for critical infrastructure.
For the AI market, the signal is simple: frontier AI growth is becoming an energy strategy problem, not just a chips problem.
